Letter to Council Letter to Council

Picture to the left is of a plane over a home in Woodcreek.  Below is a letter from a CHARGE member after speaking to the council.

Dear Mayor White and City Council Members,

I would first like to thank you for giving me the opportunity on Tuesday afternoon (March 9th) to speak to you about our very unfortunate situation regarding low flying planes over Woodcreek Subdivision since the new runway (8L/26R) was opened in November 2003. I especially would like to thank Council Member Addie Wiseman for taking her own time, after hours last night (Weds. March 10th), to make a special trip to our home and experience first hand what we have been faced with since November. I believe she was duly impressed and had heartfelt sympathy for our situation. I have included a few pictures of the planes that flew over our home on Weds evening while Ms. Wiseman was there. Sometimes you have to experience first hand what others may be experiencing to truly appreciate their situation. Note - I have included a few pictures of the planes that flew over our home on Weds. My husband counted 45 to 50 planes during the hour (60 minutes) that Ms. Wiseman was at our home.

As I stated on Tuesday afternoon, we understand that the airport spent a lot of money (upwards of 300 million dollars) putting in this new runway, and feel sure that it will continue to be used. However since our homes are obviously directly in the path of the landing of the planes on the new runway, we feel the only fair thing to do in this situation is to buy out our homes so that we can move to a quieter more peaceful setting. It is a shame, as our neighborhood was at one time a very quiet peaceful setting and all of our neighbors have taken great pride in keeping their property looking nice. I'm not sure where the mistakes were made during the initial study (1998/1999) prior to constructing the runway, however I do not feel the tests were accurate. I do not believe that any one of you would feel that this situation is o.k. and liveable (even with soundproofing). All you need to do is talk with Ms. Wiseman and I am sure she will validate my feelings.

Please do the right and just thing as elected officials and promote fair compensation to those of us directly affected by the development of this new runway.

On a personal note - again I thank you so much Ms. Wiseman for taking the time to come to our home to verify the injustice that is being forced upon us. I am sending you a package with the hard copy color prints of the above pictures and some other information. My husband will make a video tape as soon as possible and also send to you so that you can share the whole experience (including the sound) with Mayor White and your colleagues.
